Bentley builds heavy, high-output, technically dense cars, and Dubai puts every one of those characteristics under pressure. Ambient heat, silica dust, short city trips and long storage periods change how a Bentley wears out compared with a car used daily in a mild climate. Faults here are rarely caused by mileage. They are caused by heat cycling, standing time and load.
This guide covers the most common Bentley problems by model and generation, explains why each fault develops, what the correct repair involves, and how to prevent it. Why Bentley Faults Develop Differently in Dubai
Three mechanisms explain most Bentley repairs in the UAE.
Heat cycling, not mileage. Rubber seals, O-rings, air spring bellows and coolant hoses fail because they are repeatedly heated to underbonnet temperature and cooled again. Every cycle drives plasticiser out of the elastomer. A 40,000 km Bentley in Dubai can have harder seals than a 100,000 km car in Europe.
Low usage. Many Bentleys here are second or third cars. Standing still flattens batteries, dries seals, lets fuel age in the tank, sets a fold in air spring bellows and lets brake discs surface-rust.
Mass and dust. A Continental GT is roughly 2,200–2,450 kg and a Bentayga is heavier again. That load sits on air springs, bushings, wheel bearings and brakes. Fine sand then packs the radiator and condenser stack from behind and abrades the rolling lobe of an air spring.
Common Bentley Continental GT and GTC Problems

First Generation (2003–2011, W12 6.0)
Coil pack and ignition failure is the classic complaint, showing as a misfire under load and a flashing engine light. Underbonnet heat kills coils faster here than anywhere else, and they should be replaced as a full set, not singly.
Oil leaks appear at the cam covers, which sit deep in the vee of the W12 and are awkward to reach, and at the oil cooler and filter housing seals. Turbo oil feed and return lines harden and weep onto hot surfaces, which is a fire risk and should never be deferred.
The water-cooled alternator uses coolant O-rings that seep as they age, producing a coolant loss with no obvious external drip. Timing chain tensioners and guides also wear on high-hour cars, and access usually means the engine comes out.
Second Generation (2011–2018, W12 and 4.0 V8)
The 4.0 twin-turbo V8 places its turbochargers inside the vee, so the surrounding heat load is severe. Common faults are turbo oil line weeping, carbon buildup on the intake valves from direct injection, thermostat and coolant pipe failures, and high-pressure fuel pump wear.
Both engines suffer PCV and crankcase pressure problems. This matters because excess crankcase pressure pushes oil past healthy seals. Resealing an engine without testing crankcase pressure first is the main reason an oil leak repair fails a second time.
Third Generation (2018 Onward)
The current car uses three-chamber air springs and 48V active anti-roll bars. The two systems are separate, and confusing them is the most frequent misdiagnosis on this platform. Electronic faults, height sensor drop links and valve block leaks dominate the workload. Common Bentley Flying Spur Problems
The Flying Spur shares its engines with the Continental, so the engine faults above apply directly. What differs is the extra electrical load. More modules, more seat and comfort motors and a longer wiring run mean parasitic battery drain is the number one complaint.
Normal quiescent draw is roughly 20–50 mA once the modules sleep. A single module that fails to sleep, or an aftermarket tracker or dashcam left in parking mode, will flatten the battery in days. Rear air suspension sag and rear climate control faults are the other regulars.
Common Bentley Bentayga Problems
The Bentayga is heavy, and the air suspension takes the consequences. Air bag failure typically appears around 60,000–80,000 km, showing as overnight sag on one corner, a compressor running longer than it used to, or the car sitting unevenly at the arches.
The failure sequence matters: an ignored air leak makes the compressor run continuously until it overheats and dies, turning a single strut job into a compressor, dryer and valve block job. Any compressor replacement must include the desiccant dryer, and any strut replacement must be followed by ride height calibration and a four-wheel alignment.
The Bentayga also loads its cooling stack hard. Sand packs the radiators, condenser and oil coolers, causing high coolant temperatures and weak AC on the same day. Common Mulsanne, Arnage, Brooklands and Azure Problems
The older 6.75 V8 cars are mechanically simpler but far more affected by standing time. Typical faults are hydraulic and air suspension leaks, brake system hydraulic accumulator wear, engine oil leaks at the rocker covers and sump, fuel system deposits after long storage, and corroded or brittle electrical connectors. Problems Shared Across Every Bentley Model
Battery and charging. AGM batteries last roughly 24–36 months in UAE heat instead of five years. A weak battery produces gearbox, suspension and warning-light faults that look mechanical. Battery voltage must be checked before any other diagnosis, and a replacement battery must be registered to the vehicle with factory-level tooling or the charging strategy stays wrong.
Transmission. The ZF 8-speed is durable, but heat degrades the fluid faster here. Shift shock, delayed engagement and torque converter shudder usually trace to old fluid or lost adaptation values, not internal damage. See Bentley transmission repair and our general gearbox repair service.
Brakes. Heavy cars, hot stops and short trips. Iron discs and pads wear quickly, and carbon ceramic discs are condemned on mass loss, not thickness, which means they must be weighed against the factory minimum. How These Repairs Should Be Done
A correct Bentley repair depends on three things. First, factory-level diagnostics with full module access, live corner pressures, adaptation values and coding, not a generic OBD reader. Second, testing the cause before replacing the part: crankcase pressure before an engine reseal, a static pressure-hold and valve block isolation test before an air spring, battery health before an electrical fault. Third, correct post-repair procedures — ride height calibration and alignment after suspension work, battery registration after a battery, gearbox adaptation after fluid.
How to Prevent Common Bentley Problems in Dubai
- Shorten the service interval. Aim for 8,000–10,000 km or 6–9 months rather than the factory annual figure, using the correct Bentley oil specification. See oil change services and Bentley service Dubai.
- Drive the car at least weekly, or fit a proper maintenance charger if it is stored.
- Replace the battery on age, not on failure.
- Have the cooling stack cleaned from behind at least annually.
- Check ride height at every service — it is the earliest air suspension warning.
- Replace cabin filters more often than the schedule states.
- Inspect the engine with the undertrays removed at every service, so a weep is found before it becomes a leak.
