What an EV genuinely eliminates
No engine oil or oil filter. No spark plugs, glow plugs or ignition coils. No timing belt or chain. No fuel filter, pump or injector cleaning. No exhaust, catalytic converter or oxygen sensors. No conventional multi-speed gearbox service. Over 75,000 km in the UAE that removes roughly AED 5,000–7,000 of scheduled work — most of what our engine repair and gearbox repair departments handle on a petrol car simply never comes up.
Regenerative braking is the second saver. Because the motor does most of the deceleration, friction pads on an EV commonly last two to three times longer; many EVs reach 100,000 km on their original pads. Discs still need periodic inspection at our brake repair bay, because pads that are rarely used can allow surface corrosion.

1. Tyres wear faster and cost more
An EV carries 300–500 kg of battery — 20–30% more mass on the same contact patch — plus instant peak torque from standstill. On abrasive, heat-softened UAE asphalt that typically shortens tyre life from around 45,000 km to 30,000–40,000 km. EV-specific low-rolling-resistance, noise-damped tyres also carry a 15–30% price premium. 2. The 12V battery still exists — and still dies
Almost every EV on UAE roads uses a conventional 12V auxiliary battery to run door locks, computers, lights and the contactors that wake the high-voltage system. It fails in Dubai heat on the same 2–3 year cycle as a petrol car’s battery, and on many models a dead 12V leaves you locked out and immobile with a full traction battery. EV comprehensive premiums in the UAE typically sit 10–25% above a comparable petrol car, driven by higher repair costs, battery-pack proximity in side impacts, and a thinner network of approved bodyshops.
