Rim Repair Cost in Dubai: What You Pay to Fix Scratched, Bent and Cracked Alloy Wheels

Rim Repair Cost in Dubai

Rim repair in Dubai usually costs between AED 250 and AED 1,200 per wheel on a standard alloy wheel. Light kerb rash sits at the bottom of that range, a bent rim that needs straightening sits in the middle, and a full refurbishment of a large diamond-cut or two-tone wheel sits at the top. Forged, multi-piece and exotic wheels cost more, and some damage cannot be repaired safely at any price.

The reason the range is so wide is simple: a rim repair price is decided by how deep the damage goes into the wheel. Damage that stays in the paint or lacquer is cheap to fix. Damage that has moved the metal out of shape costs more. Damage that has broken the metal is either an expensive specialist job or a reason to replace the wheel. On top of that, the wheel’s size, its finish and the way it was manufactured all change the labour time.

This guide explains each type of rim damage, why it happens, how it is repaired, what it costs in Dubai, and how to stop it happening again. For the older overview of repair methods, see our post on how a wheel rim is repaired.

What a Car Rim Is Made Of and Why It Matters for Repair Cost

Most people use “rim” to mean the whole wheel. Strictly, the rim is the outer barrel that the tyre seals against, and the centre section with the spokes is the wheel face. Both parts can be damaged, and the location of the damage matters as much as its size.

Nearly every modern alloy wheel is made from an aluminium alloy that is heat treated after it is formed. This heat treatment (usually called T6) is what gives a light wheel its strength. It is also the reason a rim cannot be treated like a steel panel: heat from welding or careless straightening undoes the treatment in the area around the repair and leaves that metal softer than the rest of the wheel.

The manufacturing method sets the repair options and the price.

Cast alloy wheels

Cast wheels are made by pouring molten aluminium into a mould. They are the most common factory wheel on Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Range Rover and most SUVs. Cast aluminium is fairly brittle, so a hard impact is more likely to crack it than bend it. Cast wheels are the easiest and cheapest to refinish, and minor bends on the rim lip and inner barrel can usually be straightened.

Flow-formed wheels

A flow-formed wheel starts as a casting, then the barrel is spun and rolled under pressure to make it thinner and stronger. Many performance and aftermarket wheels use this method. They tolerate straightening slightly better than a plain cast wheel, but welding destroys the strengthened grain structure of the barrel.

Forged wheels

Forged wheels are pressed from a solid billet of aluminium. They are stronger and lighter, which is why they are fitted to many Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren and AMG models. A forged wheel tends to bend rather than crack, which makes straightening possible, but the thin spokes and complex machined faces make refinishing slower. Forged wheel repair in Dubai is priced well above cast wheel repair.

Multi-piece wheels

Two- and three-piece wheels have a separate centre and one or two outer barrels bolted or welded together. The advantage is that a badly damaged outer barrel can often be replaced on its own. The disadvantage is cost: the wheel has to be split, resealed and pressure tested, and barrels usually come from the wheel manufacturer.

Carbon fibre wheels

Carbon fibre and carbon-hybrid wheels are offered on some Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and other high-performance models. A general wheel shop cannot repair structural damage to a carbon wheel. Any impact damage needs inspection through the manufacturer’s process, and in most cases the answer is replacement. Cosmetic work on the clear coat is possible, but nothing that involves the fibre structure.

Steel wheels

Steel wheels are now mostly seen on spare wheels, older 4x4s and commercial vehicles. They bend easily, straighten easily and are cheap to replace, so they rarely justify a repair beyond basic straightening and repainting.

Scratched Rim Repair Cost: Finish Damage, Lacquer Failure and Corrosion

Finish damage is anything that has not yet moved or broken the metal: light scuffs, peeling lacquer, faded paint, white spidery corrosion under the clear coat, and staining from baked-on brake dust.

Why rim finishes fail in Dubai

The clear coat on a wheel works in harsher conditions than the paint on the body. Wheels sit next to brake discs that regularly run at several hundred degrees, they collect hot brake dust that contains iron particles, and they are cleaned with stronger chemicals than the rest of the car. In Dubai, this is combined with strong UV, high surface temperatures and coastal humidity.

Once the lacquer is chipped by a stone or a kerb, moisture and salts get under it and the aluminium starts to corrode sideways under the clear coat. This is called filiform corrosion and shows up as white threads or a cloudy patch that slowly spreads. It is very common on diamond-cut wheels because the bare machined aluminium is protected only by a thin clear lacquer. Acidic wheel cleaners and brush-type car washes speed the process up. The same lacquer breakdown we explain in our guide to why car paint peels happens on wheels, only faster.

How finish damage is repaired

A proper fix removes all of the failed lacquer and corrosion back to clean metal. Sanding only the visible patch and spraying over it traps corrosion underneath, and it returns within months. Depending on the finish, the wheel is then primed, painted and lacquered, or machined and lacquered.

Painted and gloss black wheels

Painted silver, grey, gunmetal and gloss black wheels are the cheapest to restore. A spot repair on one area of a painted wheel costs roughly AED 250 to AED 450. A full respray of the whole face costs roughly AED 450 to AED 900 depending on size. Gloss black shows every imperfection, so it needs more preparation time than silver.

Diamond cut wheel repair cost

Diamond-cut (machined-face) wheels have a bright, bare aluminium face that is cut on a CNC wheel lathe and then lacquered. A paint spray cannot reproduce this finish. The wheel has to come off the car, the tyre is removed, the face is painted (on two-tone wheels) and then re-machined on the lathe before the clear coat is applied.

Expect around AED 500 to AED 950 per wheel for diamond-cut refurbishment, rising on 22 and 23-inch wheels. Every re-cut removes a thin layer of metal from the face, so a diamond-cut wheel can only be re-machined a limited number of times. A wheel that has been cut several times before may no longer have enough material, and that should be checked before any quote is accepted.

Chrome and polished wheels

Chrome-plated wheels cannot be spot repaired. Damaged chrome has to be chemically stripped, the wheel repaired, and the whole wheel re-plated, which is usually outsourced to a plating specialist. Expect AED 900 to AED 1,800 or more per wheel, and a longer turnaround. Mirror-polished aluminium wheels are repaired by sanding and hand polishing, then sealed, and the price depends heavily on hours.

Matte and satin finishes

Matte and satin finishes cannot be polished or blended. A scuff on a satin wheel means refinishing the whole face so the sheen matches. Costs are similar to a full respray, but colour and sheen matching take more care than gloss.

Kerb Rash Repair Cost (Curb Rash Repair Cost)

Kerb rash is the grinding damage on the outer rim lip caused by scraping a kerb or a parking ramp edge. It is the most common rim damage in Dubai.

Why kerb rash happens

On modern luxury cars, the wheel is often wider than the tyre sidewall, so the rim lip is the first thing that touches the kerb. Low-profile tyres on 21, 22 and 23-inch wheels give almost no rubber buffer. Underground car park ramps in Dubai malls and towers are tight and lined with raised concrete edges, and many drop-off points have high kerbs. Parallel parking with surround cameras that show the kerb only from above also leads drivers to misjudge the gap.

How kerb rash is repaired

Light kerb rash is sanded smooth, the gouges are filled with a metal-based filler or, for deeper missing material, carefully built up, then the area is shaped back to the original lip profile. The repaired section is then painted or machined to match the rest of the wheel. On a diamond-cut wheel, kerb rash on the face edge means re-machining the whole face.

Kerb rash repair price

  • Light kerb rash on a painted wheel: roughly AED 250 to AED 400
  • Deeper gouges with material loss: roughly AED 350 to AED 600
  • Kerb rash on a diamond-cut wheel: priced as a diamond-cut refurbishment, roughly AED 500 to AED 950

A deep gouge on the rim lip is not only cosmetic. If material is missing from the bead area where the tyre seals, the wheel can lose air slowly, and a sharp gouge is a starting point for a crack. A wheel with heavy kerb damage should be checked for straightness at the same time.

Bent Rim Repair Cost: Lip Bends, Barrel Bends and Flat Spots

A bent rim is a wheel that is no longer round or no longer runs true. The bend can be on the outer lip (visible), on the inner barrel (hidden behind the wheel face) or across a section of the rim as a flat spot.

Why rims bend

Most bends come from a single sharp impact: a pothole on a service road, a broken manhole edge, a raised expansion joint on a bridge, a speed bump taken too fast or debris on the highway. The inner barrel bends more often than the outer lip because it carries more load and has no visible protection. Larger wheels with shorter tyre sidewalls bend more easily because the tyre cannot absorb the hit.

Tyre pressure also plays a part. Under-inflated tyres let the rim reach the road surface during an impact. In Dubai’s summer, some drivers let air out of hot tyres when the pressure reading looks high, which leaves them under-inflated once the tyres cool down. Run-flat tyres, fitted to many BMW and MINI models, have very stiff sidewalls that pass more of the impact into the rim, and cracked or bent inner barrels on run-flat cars are a well-known problem.

Signs of a bent rim

  • Vibration through the steering wheel or seat, usually starting around 80 to 120 km/h
  • A tyre that loses pressure slowly with no puncture found
  • A wobble that can be seen when the wheel is spun on a balancer
  • Uneven tyre wear or a bulge on the tyre sidewall
  • The car pulling to one side after an impact

Vibration can also come from tyres, balancing, worn suspension parts or brake discs, which is why a bent rim should be confirmed on a wheel balancer and not guessed. Our brand pages explain this for Range Rover vibration repair, Mercedes vibration repair, Porsche vibration repair and Lamborghini vibration repair.

How a bent rim is straightened

The tyre is removed and the wheel is mounted on a straightening machine that measures runout, which is how far the rim moves out of round (radial runout) and side to side (lateral runout) as it turns. The bent section is gently warmed with controlled, measured heat that stays well below the temperature that would damage the alloy’s heat treatment, then pushed back into shape with hydraulic rams in small steps. The runout is measured again after every step.

Most wheel manufacturers allow well under 1 mm of runout, often around 0.5 mm. A good repair brings the wheel back inside that tolerance. If it cannot be brought inside tolerance, the wheel should not go back on the car, because the vibration will remain and the tyre will wear unevenly.

Bent rim repair price

  • Minor bend on the lip or inner barrel, cast wheel up to 20 inches: roughly AED 300 to AED 500
  • Larger bend or flat spot, or wheels of 21 to 23 inches: roughly AED 500 to AED 1,000
  • Forged wheel straightening: roughly AED 700 to AED 1,500, depending on design

Straightening does not include refinishing. If the bend was caused by an impact that also scraped the face, the cosmetic work is added on top.

When a bent rim should not be straightened

A wheel should be replaced, not straightened, when the bend is in a spoke or the wheel centre, when the bend runs close to the bolt holes or hub seat, when the wheel has already been straightened in the same area, or when straightening opens up a crack. Aluminium hardens and becomes brittle each time it is bent, so the same area can only be worked once with confidence.

Cracked Rim Repair Cost and When Welding Is Not Safe

A cracked rim is the most serious type of rim damage. Cracks usually appear on the inner barrel or at the edge of the rim lip after a hard impact, and they often show up as a slow air leak that refills keep hiding.

Why rims crack

Cast aluminium cracks rather than bends when it is hit hard and fast. A crack can also grow from an earlier bend, a deep kerb gouge or a rim that was straightened too aggressively. Wheels on cars with very low-profile tyres and run-flat tyres crack more often, and the wider rear wheels on staggered setups are the most exposed.

What welding does to an alloy wheel

A crack is repaired by grinding out the crack, TIG welding the groove with aluminium filler and machining the area smooth. The problem is the heat. Welding locally undoes the heat treatment, and the metal in the area around the weld can end up at roughly half to two-thirds of its original strength. The weld itself also has a random grain structure, which matters even more on flow-formed and forged wheels whose strength comes from their compressed grain. European wheel manufacturers advise against repairing wheels with heat, welding or added material for this reason.

In practice, a small crack on the inner barrel or the outer lip of a cast wheel is commonly welded in the trade and many repaired wheels give no further trouble. The responsible way to do it is to limit welding to the rim barrel and lip, test the repair, and refuse anything outside those areas.

Cracks that should never be welded

  • Any crack in a spoke
  • Any crack in the wheel centre, hub bore or around the bolt holes
  • Cracks longer than a few centimetres, or more than one crack on the same wheel
  • Cracks on forged, flow-formed or carbon wheels on high-performance cars
  • A crack on a wheel that has already been welded

These wheels should be replaced. Driving on a cracked wheel is dangerous: a crack can grow quickly at highway speed, and a sudden loss of air at speed on a heavy SUV is a real risk. If a crack is found away from home, it is safer to arrange recovery than to drive on it. Our guide to choosing roadside assistance in Dubai covers what to look for.

How a welded rim should be tested

After welding, the repair should be checked with dye penetrant to find surface flaws in and around the weld, the wheel should be pressure tested with the tyre fitted (or in a water tank), and the runout should be measured again. A shop that welds and refits the wheel without testing is guessing.

Cracked rim repair price

  • Single small crack on the inner barrel or lip, cast wheel: roughly AED 400 to AED 900, including testing
  • Crack repair plus straightening and refinishing: often AED 900 to AED 1,500

If the price of a crack repair plus refinishing is close to the price of a good used or new wheel, replacement is usually the better choice.

Rim Repair Price List in Dubai (2026 Guide)

The table below gives typical Dubai market prices per wheel. Final prices depend on the inspection, the wheel design and how much damage there is.

Repair type 17 to 19 inch 20 to 21 inch 22 to 23 inch
Scuff or spot repair, painted wheel AED 250 – 350 AED 300 – 400 AED 350 – 450
Kerb rash repair, painted wheel AED 250 – 400 AED 300 – 500 AED 400 – 600
Full respray, painted or gloss black AED 450 – 650 AED 550 – 750 AED 650 – 900
Diamond-cut refurbishment AED 500 – 650 AED 600 – 800 AED 750 – 950
Powder coating (full wheel) AED 550 – 750 AED 650 – 900 AED 800 – 1,100
Bent rim straightening, cast wheel AED 300 – 450 AED 400 – 650 AED 550 – 1,000
Crack welding with testing, cast wheel AED 400 – 600 AED 500 – 750 AED 600 – 900
Chrome re-plating AED 900 – 1,300 AED 1,100 – 1,600 AED 1,300 – 1,800+
Forged wheel straightening or refinish AED 700 – 1,100 AED 900 – 1,300 AED 1,000 – 1,500+

For comparison, a replacement wheel from the dealer typically costs:

  • Premium German and British cars (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Range Rover, Porsche), 19 to 22 inches: roughly AED 3,000 to AED 9,000 per wheel
  • Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren forged wheels: often AED 10,000 to AED 25,000 or more per wheel
  • Carbon fibre wheels: usually far higher, and sometimes only sold as a set

This is why repair is the right answer for most cosmetic damage, most kerb rash and many bends, while replacement is right for structural cracks and damage to exotic wheels.

Extra Costs on a Rim Repair Invoice

The repair price for the wheel itself is not always the full bill. These items are often added, and it is worth asking whether a quote includes them.

Tyre removal, refitting and balancing

Almost every proper rim repair needs the tyre taken off. Removing, refitting and balancing a tyre usually adds AED 60 to AED 150 per wheel, more for run-flat tyres and very low-profile tyres on 22 and 23-inch wheels, which need a special tyre machine and more care to avoid damaging the bead. Our auto tyre services cover tyre fitting, balancing and rotation alongside rim work.

TPMS sensors and valves

Most luxury cars have a tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS) sensor inside each wheel. The sensor’s valve seal and nut should be replaced whenever the tyre comes off, which costs around AED 50 to AED 100. If the sensor was damaged by the impact or by careless tyre removal, a new one costs roughly AED 250 to AED 600, plus programming on some cars.

Tyre damage

The same impact that bent or cracked the rim often damages the tyre. A bulge or cut on the sidewall means the tyre must be replaced, not repaired. On large luxury SUVs and performance cars, a single premium tyre can cost AED 900 to AED 3,000 or more. Our guide to choosing the right tyres explains sizes, load ratings and when tyres should be replaced in pairs.

Wheel alignment

An impact hard enough to bend a rim can also knock the wheel alignment out or bend a suspension part. A four-wheel alignment usually costs AED 200 to AED 450, more on cars with driver assistance cameras that need calibration. Our posts on how wheel alignment protects your tyres in Dubai and professional wheel alignment for luxury cars explain why this check matters after any pothole or kerb impact.

Suspension and steering checks

A hard hit that bends a wheel can also bend a control arm or tie rod, damage a ball joint or split a shock absorber seal. If the steering wheel is off centre after the impact, or the car pulls, the suspension needs checking as well as the wheel. See our guides to signs your car needs new suspension parts and signs of bad shock absorbers, and our car suspension repair and car steering repair services. Our article on why early suspension inspection saves money shows how a small missed fault turns into a larger repair.

Wheel bolts and locking wheel nuts

Wheel bolts that were over-tightened with an impact gun can damage the tapered or ball seat in the wheel, and some cars use bolts that should not be reused after a certain number of fittings. A lost locking wheel nut key adds removal time. These are small costs, but they should be on the quote.

Repair or Replace a Damaged Rim: How to Decide

A rim repair is worth it when the damage is cosmetic or limited to the rim lip and barrel, when the wheel can be brought back inside its runout tolerance, and when the total cost is well below the price of a replacement wheel.

Replacement is the better choice when:

  • The crack is in a spoke, the wheel centre or near the bolt holes
  • The wheel has already been straightened or welded in the same area
  • The wheel is forged or carbon on a high-performance car and the damage is structural
  • A diamond-cut face has already been re-machined several times
  • The total of repair, tyre, TPMS and refinishing is close to the price of a good used or new wheel

Appearance across the set also matters. If one wheel is refinished, it can look brighter than the other three. Many owners refurbish all four wheels at the same time for an even finish, and most shops price a set of four lower per wheel than a single wheel.

Insurance and rim damage

Comprehensive policies in the UAE may cover wheel damage from an accident, but a single damaged rim is often cheaper to repair than the policy excess, and a claim can affect the no-claims discount at renewal. It is worth comparing the repair price with the excess before claiming. For larger repairs, Carzilla also offers pay-later options with Tabby.

Why Rims Get Damaged So Often in Dubai

Rim damage in Dubai has a few local causes that explain why it is so common on expensive cars.

Large wheels and low-profile tyres. Many luxury SUVs and sports cars in the UAE are ordered with the largest wheel option. A 22 or 23-inch wheel with a 30 or 35-profile tyre looks good, but the tyre has very little sidewall to absorb an impact, so the rim takes the hit.

Car park ramps and kerbs. Spiral ramps in malls and residential towers have raised concrete edges, and many valet and drop-off areas have high kerbs. Most kerb rash in the city comes from these places, not from the open road.

Road works, service roads and expansion joints. Construction zones, temporary diversions and older service roads have sharp edges and potholes. Expansion joints on bridges and flyovers can have raised lips.

Speed bumps. Residential communities have many speed bumps, some with steep sides. Taking them quickly on large wheels with stiff sport suspension sends a hard shock into the rim.

Tyre pressure and heat. Tyre pressure rises as the tyre heats up. Letting air out of a hot tyre leaves it under-inflated once it cools, and an under-inflated tyre lets the rim strike the road on impact. Pressure should be set cold, in the shade, to the figure on the door frame label. Correct pressure also saves fuel, as explained in our guide on how to reduce fuel consumption.

Desert driving. Tyres are aired down for sand driving. Hitting a hidden rock or a hard sand ridge at low pressure can dent the rim lip or unseat the tyre bead, and driving back onto tarmac before re-inflating puts extra load on the rim.

Brake dust, heat and harsh cleaning. High-performance brake pads produce a lot of dust that contains iron particles. In summer heat it bakes onto the wheel and eats into the clear coat. Strong acidic wheel cleaners and brush car washes remove the dust but also attack the lacquer. Our guides to brake pad replacement and car brake repair explain how pad choice affects dust.

Over-tightened wheel bolts. Bolts fired on with an impact gun can distort the bolt seats and warp brake discs. Wheel bolts should be tightened in a star pattern with a torque wrench to the manufacturer’s figure, which on most luxury cars is roughly 120 to 180 Nm.

How a Professional Rim Repair Is Done

A rim repair that lasts follows the same order every time, whatever the damage.

Inspection with the wheel off the car. The wheel is removed and cleaned, including the inner barrel, which is where most cracks and bends hide. The wheel is spun on a balancer to measure runout, and the whole surface is checked for cracks. This is when the shop should say whether the wheel can be repaired at all.

Tyre and TPMS removal. The tyre is removed on a machine suited to the tyre type, taking care with run-flat beads and the TPMS sensor.

Structural work first. Straightening and crack repair are done before any cosmetic work, because there is no point refinishing a wheel that turns out to be beyond repair. Runout is measured after straightening, and welded areas are tested.

Stripping and surface preparation. Old lacquer, paint and corrosion are removed back to clean metal by chemical stripping or media blasting. Kerb damage is filled and shaped to the original profile. Skipping this stage is the main reason cheap repairs peel within a few months.

Refinishing. The wheel is primed, painted and lacquered, powder coated, or machined on a CNC lathe for a diamond-cut face, then lacquered. The coating is cured under controlled conditions, not left to dry in the sun.

Refitting, balancing and torque. New TPMS valve seals are fitted, the tyre is mounted and the wheel is balanced. The wheel goes back on the car with clean hub faces, and the bolts are tightened to the correct torque with a torque wrench. If the impact was hard, the alignment is checked before the car is returned.

How long does rim repair take?

A single kerb rash or scuff repair on a painted wheel can often be finished the same day. Straightening and balancing usually take a few hours. A full refurbishment, diamond-cut machining or powder coating usually takes one to two days because the coatings need curing time. Chrome re-plating and forged multi-piece rebuilds can take a week or more.

How to Prevent Rim Damage

Most rim damage is avoidable. These habits make the biggest difference.

Check tyre pressure cold and regularly. Set pressures in the morning before driving, using the door frame label. Never release air from hot tyres to bring the reading down.

Leave space at kerbs. When parallel parking, stop with a hand’s width between the tyre and the kerb. Take car park ramps slowly and wide. Use the side camera view, not only the top view, to judge the gap.

Slow down for speed bumps and broken surfaces. Cross speed bumps straight and slowly. On roads under construction, drop speed and avoid driving through sharp-edged holes or over raised joints at speed.

Think about wheel and tyre size. On a car used mainly on city roads with many speed bumps, a slightly smaller wheel with a taller tyre sidewall gives better protection to the rim and a more comfortable ride. Changing wheel size or offset must still follow UAE rules, explained in our guide to car modification rules in Dubai. For owners planning a new look, our post on custom rims and tinting shows what is involved, and our car modification team can advise on fitment.

Fit rim protectors. Plastic rim protector strips (sometimes sold as alloy rim gators) sit on the outer lip and take kerb contact instead of the wheel. They are cheap compared with a refurbishment and are available through our tyre services.

Protect and clean the finish properly. A ceramic coating on the wheels makes brake dust easier to wash off and protects the lacquer from heat and chemicals. Our article on ceramic coating vs PPF and our guide to how long ceramic coating lasts in the UAE explain the options. Wash wheels with a pH-neutral wheel cleaner and a soft brush, and avoid acidic cleaners and automatic brush washes. Our car detailing service and guide to choosing a detailing workshop in Dubai cover safe wheel cleaning.

Fix small damage early. A chip in the lacquer or a light kerb scuff is cheap to repair. Left alone, it lets corrosion spread under the clear coat and turns a spot repair into a full refurbishment. The same applies to bodywork, as covered in our car scratch repair guide.

Have the wheels checked at every service. Inner barrel bends and early cracks are invisible from the outside. Checking the inner side of each wheel during routine servicing or a car inspection catches damage before it causes a slow leak or a blowout. Visible wheel damage and tyre condition are also checked during the RTA vehicle test.
